Minimally Invasive Endodontics. Latest update. Buchanan Endo Day in Tallinn brings Dr. L. Stephen Buchanan to Swissôtel Tallinn.
Minimally invasive access
Errors tend to accumulate during procedure, and early errors cause the most devastating outcomes. Until recently we had to balance conservation of tooth structure with irrigating efficacy, cutting big access and canal preparations out of necessity. Endodontics has since recognized the importance of dentin preservation – the question has become how to perform minimally invasive procedures without losing our minds.
We need to better understand where the law of diminishing returns tells us that further dentin conservation is misdirected, needlessly complex, and could actually lower success rates of RCT.

Learning objectives
- Designing and executing MIE access cavities
- MIE instrumentation for irrigation and obturation
- Cleaning tools: laser-assisted and closed-system negative-pressure irrigation
- MIE obturation techniques and restoration
Minimally invasive access
Errors accumulate during a procedure, and early errors cause the most devastating outcomes, so minimally invasive access cavities have to be executed properly. Endodontics now values dentin preservation; the question is how to work minimally invasively without losing our minds.
Conefit MIE preparations
MIE restrictions can frustrate execution enough to cause more short-term failures. We need concepts, tools and techniques made for MIE, and to know where further dentin conservation becomes misdirected and could lower the success rate of root canal treatment.
